Having read the recent story in The Scarborough News about attacks on traffic wardens increasing over the last few years I would like to add a little more to the story.
The civil enforcement officers (traffic wardens) patrolling the streets around Scarborough quite often overlook certain traffic violations because of who cars belong to. Recently I was stood at the junction of Queen Street and Newborough and witnessed 3 civil enforcement officers walk past a car that was parked on double yellow lines which is also a no loading/waiting area. I was stood there for around fifteen minutes before the owner came out of a shop and casually drove off.
Now this would seem the car must have been known to the civil enforcement officers and was overlooked because the owner was a well known figure in Scarborough. Now if I had parked my car in the same spot would any of those civil enforcement officers walked past without giving me a ticket? I think not... Now to some this may seem to be a trivial issue but while I don't agree with people being assaulted for doing their job I do agree that civil enforcement officers in Scarborough do need to take a zero tolerance approach to handing out tickets. I can also understand why people would get angry at getting tickets where others get away with parking wherever they want and get away with it.
And to say most of the road markings in Scarborough are not in strict compliance with TSRGD, Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions, is a whole other story I think The Scarborough News should investigate.
